White lies?

Jacob’s sons deceive the town of Hamor and Shechem as an avenue for justice. Are there times when deceit is appropriate and God-sanctioned? If so, what is the distinction?

Well, in Genesis Abraham is often deceitful about his relationship to Sarah. He calls her his sister and yet she is his wife. This creates some sticky situations for the couple when Sarah becomes an object of desire for the Pharaoh of Egypt. But clearly God does not like it when humans are disloyal to Him.
